Adoption Day & A Lil' Progress

It's official! In the eyes of China Adiah belongs to us! The day started early for us again. Normally 8:30 wouldn't be too early but when you have a new 19 month old and you really don't know what she likes or how things will go then 8:30 IS early. We went back to the CCAA and had to do Adiah's footprints, pay some fees, and get interviewed. They asked basic questions but then they asked if we would ever abandon her and were we happy with her. Of COURSE we're happy with her!! Again, the whole thing lasted like 30 minutes and we were back on the bus. We stopped by the little grocery store and got some more supplies. Our guide dropped us off and told us we were on our own until Thursday. So this afternoon all the families met in one room and let the babies play together. Adiah doesn't really play yet. She doesn't quite know what to do with toys and doesn't want them touching her yet. We are taking things very slow with her. She still doesn't want to take her bottle or cup but I sort of forced one on her this evening because of her lack of pee-pee diapers. I tried to give her a bath and that did not go well. She must have never been in water before. Totally freaked! Do you know how slippery a wet baby is??? When she's mad its even worse! Anyway, we have made some good progress with her. Little by little...we'll get there. Hope you like the video. Its shows some of the progress....pray for her. And us. She really wants nothing to do with Brian today. She actually cries if he comes near her. But she is precious! She just needs some good lovin'!!!

She is so sweet. I love her kissing you! SO sweet. You guys are making progress with her. Can't wait for her to be home! And you know Lo and I can give tons of (unsolicited) advice on how to ease her into things. :) HA! If you need anything just email. I'll be praying for the Lord to download you with creative ways to communicate and connect with her! You guys have three of the GREATEST children on the planet so I am quite confident this one will be no different. :) By the way, I miss your kiddos! I feel like you and B have been gone for a month. Are you sure you have to stay gone for another week? Surely? Love you and can't wait to see YOU!
We are continuing to pray and ask the Lord to breath on you. If y'all can, try to listen to Chris' sermon from this week. Whoa. It's good. Again, love you and see you in a week! XO

I can see great strides in what you are doing for her. Just to see that sweet, sweet smile on her face makes my heart leap for joy. I can see God working in her through you! YOu are awesome parents for a little girl who otherwise might never know Jesus. The kids look forward to each blog and I can see the joy in their faces as they silently watch their little sister. I think I even saw some tears of joy. Julie told me she is loving the blogs.
Can't wait to see you again!

The kisses are precious, love them! You'll be there for her first words and her first steps! God knows she's going to catch up and excel all developmental milestones, He just wanted her mommy and daddy and family to see some of them too! Isn't she just sunshine? Love yall.

We went four wheelin, dirt biking and hiking today. Wish you were here but glad you're not!!!

Looks like things are going great, and she is already starting to attach!! Those kisses at the end were the sweetest thing. I am sure that you know that a lot of the babies are scared/unsure of men at first because they have never been around a lot of men. You can tell that she is so capable of love! Her progress will be remarkable.

{hug} Katie refused bottles and food from us for 3 days, ended up very sick because of it. I think we went through 4-5 diapers in 3 days. Found out that Katie is just very resistant to change, she liked her bottles very warm, liked this "egg milk" concoction, and the bottle nipple needed a HUGE GINORMOUS hole. We took a knife, cleaned it, and stuck the end of it in the bottle nipple...making an X (about that size too).

Katie completely rejected ME (Mom) for the entire 2 weeks we were there. She would be smiling and playing with Dh or the other people in our group, see me and "shut down" or cry. Since she ended up so sick, if she cried for too long she would vomit. So, I didn't force myself on her too much. I did the "fun" stuff with her. Sometimes (enough time since last feeding) I would walk the halls with her by myself and she'd alway stop crying quickly (she just withdrew into herself). Lots of just being there. It was incredibly hard on me, and it was hard on Dh.

Email me if you need to. coblanke@gmail.com (I'm from AWAA board).

I'll be praying for you all. {hug}

What a beautiful little girl! :) I read one of the other comments about cutting the huge hole in the nipple of the bottles & we had to do that too! And our little girl loved her bottles so very hot. It was hard to make them that hot. But it did take some time before she would take a bottle very well. You had to find the right combination of formula & cereal & temperature.

I think our girls are from the same orphange-Dingyuan & our little girl was born 6-12-06, so she is only about 6 weeks older then Adiah. Maybe they were crib mates? :) Also, have you noticed if Adiah likes to "smell" her wrist? We noticed that when we got our Madeline-all 3 girls from Dingyuan did that.
Praying for some quiet time for just the 3 of you to get to know each other.

It was so good to see and talk with you on Skype last evening. Adiah is cute cute cute! Amy and Brian, I am overwhelmed with God's love and grace in this time. The two of you, together with God's miracle touch and love, will be what Adiah has needed all along. We're just getting started. Your faith and our faith will continue to grow by leaps and bounds, right along with Adiah's developmental progress. If it 'takes a village' to raise a child, just know that God has much more than that waiting for you when you return to us. Our hearts and arms are waiting for you, sweet children. All my love,
Mom
